OASIS ARE SIMPLY SUPERSONIC AT MURRAYFIELD PDF Print
Wednesday, 17 June 2009

More than 50,000 fans were rocked to the core by iconic rock band Oasis tonight (Wednesday 17 June) at Murrayfield Stadium in front of a 55,000 crowd.

Support acts Kasabian; The Enemy; and Reverend & The Makers provided the perfect start to the evening as the steady flow of fans poured down the stadium walkways, onto the reinforced pitch and into the stands.

But the biggest cheer was reserved for the main act and when Noel and Liam stepped into the bowl the stage was set for an almighty evening of rock and roll with blockbusting hits such as ‘Don’t look back in anger’, ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Champagne Supernova’ keeping fans in full voice throughout.

Scottish Rugby Stadium Manager, Mark Laidlaw, said: “Following on from Rugby League’s Magic Weekend, The Scottish Hydro Electric Cup Final’s day, the Heineken Cup Final and the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s, the concert was yet another fantastic example of the versatility of the national stadium.

“Murrayfield stadium has just hosted one of the biggest bands in the world illustrating superbly that the home of Scottish Rugby is not just a world-class sports stadium, it is also one of the premium concert venues in the UK.”

The concert is expected to add to the multi-million pounds boost to the local economy through events held at Murrayfield Stadium.

The next major events at Murrayfield Stadium will take place in the autumn when the stadium will revert back to rugby for Edinburgh Rugby’s Magners League and Heineken Cup matches (go to www.edinburghrugby.org for fixture details), before Scotland take on Fiji, Australia and Argentina on 14, 21 and 28 November respectively in the Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Tests (go to www.scottishrugby.org for more details including the opportunity to buy tickets).
