The Murrayfield Centenary Fund PDF Print

Murrayfield Centenary FundThe Murrayfield Centenary Fund (Scottish Charity OSCR number SC005015) is an independent fund recognised by Scottish Rugby.

The Fund, set up in Scottish Rugby’s centenary season 1972-73, focuses on providing assistance to injured Scottish rugby players and is financially and administratively independent. Since its inception, it has assisted a number of players with short or longer term injuries, with the help and support they needed.

In addition to financial assistance, the Fund also helps with:

•      Motor vehicles
•      Wheelchairs
•      Computers
•      Adaptations to players‘ or parents’ homes

Donations and Fundraising

The Murrayfield Centenary Fund is funded through a combination of both generous donations and planned fund raising events. It is, as you can imagine, vitally important that the Fund continues to be able to grow and hence support those who need it most. To enable us to do that, the Trustees welcome all contributions.

You can donate towards the Fund and we will be very grateful for your kind assistance. CLICK HERE TO DONATE.

David Azhar, Whitecraigs RFC

“The Murrayfield Centenary Fund has been a huge support to my family and myself since my rugby accident in 2005. It offered support and advice when needed and even now we know that if we need any help they will offer it to us. The Murrayfield Centenary Fund is a wonderful charity.”
Jonny Mitchell, North Berwick RFC

“Without support from the Murrayfield Centenary Fund I would have had some financial difficulties.
For this I am eternally grateful.”

Scott Laidlaw, Jed-Forest RFC

“I am very grateful to the Murrayfield Centenary Fund for the assistance they gave me last year when I was unable to work. If it wasn't for the generosity of the Fund we would not have managed. We are extremely grateful for this.”

Structure, Governance and Management

Governing Document - The then General Committee of the Scottish Rugby Union established the Fund in 1972 by Deed of Trust (registered in the Books of Council and Session on 6 June 1972) and agreed with the Inland Revenue (registered from 8 August 1972) that the terms of the Deed setting up the Fund will enable the Fund to be regarded as a charitable one entitled to relief under Section 360 of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1970 (registered with OSCR from 23 June 2005).  In effect, this means that donations to the Fund can be made by way of gift aid in respect of which the Fund will be able to recover tax from the Inland Revenue (now HM Revenue & Customs).

Management of Fund - The Fund is managed by the Trustees of the Fund.

Objectives and Activities

Objects of Fund - The objects of the Fund are wide and include assistance being given to players injured or suffering disablement as a result of playing Rugby Football as well as such other general charitable purposes as the Trustees see fit.  The giving of assistance is at the discretion of the Trustees and the aim of the Trustees is to build up the General Fund sufficiently such as to be able to give assistance wherever appropriate and approved by the Trustees, including taking into account the possibility of there being several large requests for assistance in any one year.
