Car Parking / Back pitches PDF Print

Will I be able to park my car behind the West Stand for international matches at Murrayfield?

No, this public car parking facility is no longer available on match days.

Why not?
Due to work on the Edinburgh tram initiative and the Water of Leith flood prevention scheme, the back pitches at Murrayfield were taken up following the Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens in June 2008. This development work meant that Scottish Rugby permanently lost a proportion of the area. The remaining back pitch area was then massively upgraded to provide three top-quality grass pitches and one IRB-compliant 3G all-weather pitch (with inbuilt sprinkler systems and floodlighting). This work was completed in April 2009.

What about after that?
This area will be used solely for training and, ultimately, games so it has to be kept in top condition at all times. This is the reasoning behind the decision not to reintroduce car parking on the playing surfaces on match days.

Where are we meant to park, then?
We would encourage all supporters to look at alternative forms of public transport when coming to Murrayfield
for these fixtures and have a wealth of information, contacts and a map on our own web site to this end, with
links to other relevant organisations. The web page here highlights many different routes that can be taken including by rail, bus and Park and Ride.

I’m disabled – will I still be able to park at the Stadium?
Disabled parking is allocated to Scottish Rugby disabled pass holders on advance application only to the Ticket Office. There will be no access to the disabled car park to supporters without the required Scottish Rugby pass. Those with Scottish Rugby Disabled Car Park passes must also produce a blue badge.

What happens about coach parking?
Please see the specific match day arrangements for coaches and minibuses by going to the Event Information site on our main home page.
