Scottish Rugby is saddened to learn of the death of former Scotland B back-row forward Syd Fowler. He was 66.

Fowler made his Scotland B debut in our first ever B international – against France in Oyonnax in 1971.  He also played in the return fixture at the Bught Park in Inverness the following year.

He played his club rugby for Dunfermline and represented the North & Midlands in 16 games in the old Inter-District Championship between 1966 and 1973, marking his debut with a win against Edinburgh.

He remained a passionate and committed rugby supporter long after his playing days, acting as both a North & Midlands and Scotland age-grade selector and a loyal follower of Stirling County.

One minute’s applause preceded Stirling County’s Scottish Hydro Premier Division 2 fixture against Dunfermline last weekend in appreciation of Syd Fowler’s contribution to the club and the game.

Scottish Rugby expresses its sincere condolences to Syd Fowler’s family and friends.  His funeral takes place at Falkirk Crematorium on Thursday 1 October at 1.30pm.
