The complaint followed the clubs’ Scottish Hydro Premier Division 1 match at Old Anniesland on Saturday 17 October. The complaint was for alleged misconduct under Scottish Rugby’s Discipline Procedures 13.3.3 and 13.3.8. Rule 13.3.3 covers misconduct such as acts or statements that are or conduct that is discriminatory by reason of religion, race, sex, sexual orientation, colour or national or ethnic origin; Rule 13.3.8 refers to any breach of Scottish Rugby’s code of conduct. The hearing, which lasted more than three hours, was before the independent Discipline Panel chaired by Rod McKenzie sitting alongside Paul Minto and Bruce Caldow. The Panel found that the case against each player was dismissed on the basis that there was no evidence to support allegations of racist abuse, following an exhaustive and thorough investigation by Scottish Rugby which involved collating more than 25 witness statements. After the hearing, Scottish Rugby’s Head of Community Rugby, Colin Thomson said: “We take any allegation of racist abuse most seriously and will always investigate such suggestions rigorously. “Racist abuse has no place in our game. We are committed to ensuring that rugby union in Scotland is open to all and that barriers, real and perceived, are removed, particularly in relation to those groups currently under-represented. “Scottish Rugby has an obligation to identify matters that may evidence non-compliance with IRB Regulations and bring to the attention of the Independent Discipline Panel matters that affect the brand and ethos of the game.” |
