Scottish Rugby will launch an exciting new coach development scheme for the 2010/11 season, following a successful pilot throughout clubs in Tayside and Fife.

The Club Coach Co-ordinator (CCC) scheme is an opportunity for your club to nominate a volunteer from within your own ranks to assist Scottish Rugby with the development of coaches and club communication in this sector.

A total of 18 clubs throughout Tayside and Fife took part in the pilot, which kicked-off with a welcome meeting at Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth, in January, providing club representatives with the opportunity to share best practice. The pilot proved to be extremely efficient in improving club communications both internally and externally, whilst also allowing the Co-ordinator to tailor the role to his, or her, strengths.

A CCC’s duties are:
• to be a central point of contact for all coach education related matters within a club
• to promote Scottish Rugby coaching courses and
• to develop a club coach database.

In addition to club duties, CCCs will be given the opportunity to undertake coach developer training, a recognised coach development award, delivered by Scottish Rugby’s Coach Development Officers.

Nominations for the role of Club Coach Co-ordinator are currently being accepted, and applications should be addressed to your club’s local Scottish Rugby Development Officer when applicable, or to Neil Graham ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). The closing date for applications is Friday 21 May.  Information has been sent out to all club secretaries and rugby development officers.

Neil Graham, coach development officer for Scottish Rugby, is looking forward to how the role of CCC will develop in clubs. He said: “We are delighted with the response of clubs who trialled the CCC scheme.

“It’s exciting to see the results from just the first few months – several coaching courses have been arranged across Tayside and Fife, with excellent attendance, which is a testament to the hard work that we have seen dedicated to the scheme.

“The CCC’s who picked up the reins in January have done a sterling job and should be commended for their efforts. We are greatly looking forward to launching the scheme across the rest of the country next season.”
