Ian Smith (Hamilton) has been elected to the Scottish Rugby Council today as representative of clubs in Scottish Hydro Premier Division 3.  Smith won on a cut of the cards – as provided in the election rules – after votes were tied 6-all with the other candidate, John Steele (Dumfries Saints).

He will succeed Jim O’Neill who stands down from the Scottish Rugby Union agm at the end of June after his club, Irvine, were relegated.
