Scottish Rugby today announces one of the country’s great rugby icons as the Event Ambassador for the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s 2009 – the finale of the IRB Sevens World Series – which takes place at Murrayfield on 30 and 31 May 2009.

Jim Calder was a member of Scotland’s 1984 Grand Slam winning side and toured with the British and Irish Lions to New Zealand in 1983.

Calder commented: “The IRB Sevens World Series is a fast and exciting international rugby tournament that sees the best teams from around the world travel the globe, dazzling crowds with their flair, skill and agility.

“It’s fitting that the home of rugby sevens, Scotland, hosts the final leg of the Series and I’m very proud to be the ambassador for the Edinburgh event.”

Scottish Rugby’s chief executive, Gordon McKie, added: “Jim is yet another Scottish rugby icon to become the Event Ambassador for the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s.

“We’re all looking forward to hosting our third tournament here in Edinburgh, a tournament which has been praised by players, coaches, officials and fans as one of the best on the circuit.

“I’m delighted to welcome Jim on board as we begin our preparations to host the finale of the IRB Sevens World Series in Scotland, the birthplace of the seven-a-side game.”

The Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s is the eighth and final leg of the IRB Sevens World Series. It will be held at Murrayfield on 30 and 31 May 2009.

Tickets sales information will be announced shortly - log on to www.edinburgh7s.com for more information.

Rugby sevens will be one of the showpiece events of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
