Assistant Referees are appointed by Scottish Rugby to service the Premiership and National 1 leagues in Scotland. Working within a team of three match officials, the assistant referees support the referee before, during and after the game. To become an assistant referee you must have completed the Level 1 Refereeing Course and refereed for a year. You then need to attend the assistant referee course. This course is intended to provide you with the fundamental knowledge of the ball going into touch and the skills to operate within a team of three match officials. The course is theoretical based and takes 4 hours.
