The UKCC Level 3 course is targeted at  head coaches of a team or programme working with assistant coaches and others such as managers and medical staff.   The course consists of five modules over one year, delivered face-to-face and through home study modules with a mixture of classroom and practical activities.

UKCC Level 3 Course Information
OBJECTIVES

On successful completion of Level 3, candidates should be able to:

• Analyse participants’ current and potential performance needs and aspirations,

• Plan a coaching programme according to agreed goals

• Manage a safe and effective coaching environment

• Deliver a coaching programme using a range of coaching styles and interventions to meet participants’ needs

• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of coaching programmes to modify future plans and meet participants’ needs

• Manage and develop personal coaching practice

• Coach techniques & tactical concepts of rugby union

• Demonstrate an understanding of the units & sub-units and their contribution to team play and the principles of rugby union

• demonstrate an understanding of the principles of attack and defence

QUALIFICATION OUTLINE

The course consists of five modules, three of which are delivered face-to-face, and two as home study. The course is studied over one year and features a mixture of practical and classroom-based activities.

The Level 3 course contributes to the provision of the underpinning knowledge and understanding of the Level 3 National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Coaching. The NOS have been developed by people from the industry with a vast range of knowledge and experience. The standards provide a benchmark of good practice. Successful candidates will be awarded SCQF Level 6 Sports Coaching (Rugby Union) by the SQA and will also receive an electronic certificate from Scottish Rugby endorsed by UKCC.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment is competency-based allowing you to be continually assessed, receive support undertake action planning throughout the course. Candidates must fulfil the home-study tasks. Coaches will also be externally assessed twice in their own coaching environment

 

Course Dates

LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATE IN COACHING RUGBY UNION

Dates for the 2012 - 13 course are as follows - (candidates must be able to attend all 5 days)

26 May 2012 - Murrayfield Stadium

27 May 2012 - Murrayfield Stadium

28 May July 2012 - Murrayfield Stadium

29 July 2012 - Murrayfield Stadium

5 May 2013 - Venue (tbc)

All applications will be considered by the coach education department and candidates will be informed if they have obtained a place on the course at the start of April 2012.

How to apply

The UKCC Level 3 course costs for 2012-13 may increase from the current price of £50 for coaches working within our clubs and affiliated schools. Successful applicants will be notified of any changes in price prior to the course commencing. Scottish Rugby will continue to work with SportScotland to keep course fees low.  Candidates who are not working in Scottish Clubs and affiliated schools or are working in other unions will be charged £750. Please note that preference will be given to those coaches working within the Scottish Game. Candidates will be given 2 years to complete the course - should candidates not be able to complete the coursework within the two years they may be withdrawn from the course - this decision will remain with the course leader and will be final.

Applicants should ensure that they have:-

  • an ability and desire to commit to the complete programme of study
  • attended their mandatory Annual Rugbyready Practical course
  • completed their UKCC Level 2 qualification
  • at least a season’s coaching experience post completion of their UKCC Level 2 qualification
  • completed the online RugbyReady self-check test available on www.IRBRugbyready.com
  • completed the online Laws self-check test available on www.IRBLaws.com
  • Completed the RugbyReady practical course.

All applicants must submit the following to be considered for a place on the course:-

  • Completed application form with email and hard copy of address for invoice.
  • Covering letter containing details of their motivations for application and their coaching aims / objectives for the coming season.
  • Coaching CV including coaching experience, current coaching position and coaching position for season 2012/2013(ie head or assistant coach), coaching qualifications and details of coaching development opportunities attended.

All applications will be considered by the coach education department and candidates will be informed if they have obtained a place on the course by the end of April 2012.

All candidates will receive a Level 3 Coaching Resource pack.  Completed application forms (downloadable below) must be returned to:
