West kick-started their Premier One campaign again with a well deserved victory over Watsonians. After the disappointment of last week’s call off against Hawick West were determined to climb the table. Watsonians opened the scoring after 13 minutes of exciting play with Ben Di Rollo knocking over a penalty from just inside the West 22. The home side responded by securing lineout possession deep in the Watsonians’ half but the ball was knocked forward before they could take advantage of the territory.
The West breakthrough came in the 19th minute with superb linking play by the forwards taking West into the visitor’s 22. The ball was recycled for Colin Duck, who threw a dummy and ran in to score. Conor Davis added the simple conversion to take West into the lead at 7-3. The first 20 minutes of the game was extremely entertaining for the crowd as both sides played with width and enterprise in the chilly conditions. Davis took West further into the lead with a penalty from in front of the posts. West had begun to play very well with the forwards winning the battle up front and led 10-3. Watsons continued to infringe at the rucks with West camped in their 22, Davis scored another penalty on the 35 minute mark to show West’s dominance. The teams went in at half time with the score at 13-3. West had played excellently, with the forwards starving the dangerous looking Watson’s backs of the ball. More at www.westofscotlandfc.co.uk/ |
