KIRKCALDY PASS THE 500 POINT MARK PDF Print
Friday, 12 December 2008

It has become the pattern of recent Kirkcaldy games for the opposition to seize the early initiative to test the Blues defence. Morgan had more success than most with Graeme Kiddie kicking a 12th minute penalty following a quickly taken free kick. The Blues had to work hard to get into the game, eventually gaining a foothold in the Morgan 22 thanks to Quintan Sanft's accurate kicking allied to some eager forward work with No 8 Matt Harvey prominent.

Sanft had already missed a penalty before he sliced through a crumbling Morgan defence and converting his own try made the score 7-3 in Kirkcaldy's favour. The Dundonians were finding it hard coping with heavy Kirkcaldy pressure and lost full back Andy Clark to the bin for a professional indiscretion. Still rather disorganised they left a gap in the middle through which Cameron Goodall cruised for the second home try, again converted by Sanft. This try took Kirkcaldy's points total for the season past the five hundred point mark. A second yellow card for Morgan prop Steve MacEwan further reduced the Forfar Road side’s challenge

As half time approached the Kirkcaldy forwards had taken a real grip on the game and they chose to scrummage a series of close range penalties until scrum half Chris McConnell nipped over for try converted by Sanft for a 21-3 Kirkcaldy lead at the break.
