Scottish Universities Rugby have selected their squad to take on French Universities in Blagnac, Toulouse on the Friday 13 February (kick-off 7.30pm). The match will be a stern test for the students in front of a partisan crowd of around 4000 in the passionate rugby area. In addition to representing their University, a strong core of the squad play regularly for Scotland’s top three Scottish Hydro Electric Premier League sides. Team manager, Jacqui Stone, said: “Such experience will be invaluable in competing against the very strong French, who will play with the typical brand of open rugby and close quarter aggression the country is renowned for.” Scottish University Rugby will go on to play against the British Colleges on Friday 27 February and then Irish Colleges Friday 13 March, both at Lasswade. Scottish Universities Rugby has provided the springboard for two players into higher platforms with last years captain, Marcus McAllister, being called up to represent the Irish Club International Side while prop Gabriel Holmes has signed a professional contract in Italy. Many Scotland University players return from last year in addition to new faces who will be making their debut at this level, following trials in October and subsequent squad sessions.
