Border Reivers 35 Edinburgh 3 A disappointing Under 18 Inter District campaign came to a conclusion when Edinburgh were well beaten by Border Reivers at Jedburgh on Friday night. Edinburgh were on the back foot from the start and indiscipline, both when under pressure in defence and also at the breakdown in attack, provided the home side plenty of territory and possession. Edinburgh also displayed a naivety in defence which allowed the Borderers in for some soft scores, although to their credit, when a bigger defeat looked on the cards as the Borders scored their fifth try ten minutes into the second half, Edinburgh prevented the Borders from scoring again and looked the more likely to get on the scoreboard in the final period. After an early penalty attempt struck the post, Reivers took the lead after 14 minutes with a Gary Lowrie try from close range converted by Gregor Hunter. A home error from the kick-off gave Euan Bonner the chance to narrow the gap with a well struck penalty but the Borderers struck twice late in the half when first Steven Mabon then Grant Runciman crossed for tries, both converted by Hunter. Tries in the opening ten minutes of the second half, from Bruce Colvine and Gregor Young, both from scrums in the Edinburgh 22, and both converted by Hunter, ended any hopes of an Edinburgh comeback. The flurry of substitutions disrupted the pattern of the match but Edinburgh were at last able to test the Reivers defence in the final period without finding a way to the home try-line.
