Edinburgh U16 18 Yorkshire U16 19 Yorkshire kicked off with a strong wind at their backs at Almond Park, Livingston on Saturday afternoon, and were on top in the early exchanges but the home defence looked solid, aided by a much improved scrum against a heavier pack. Although a smaller pack the Edinburgh scrum was solid and improved from their first game. Edinburgh bounced back and attacked Yorkshire who were penalised in front of the posts resulting in 3 points from Danny Owenson. Owensen had a second opportunity soon after but into the wind his kick drifted wide. Another good run by the Yorkshire backs just failed to produce a second score as the ball was knocked on at the line. The player in question incidentally went by the name of William Wallace whose family are local and were watching from the stand. With the wind in their favour Edinburgh were soon on the scoreboard in the second half with an Alex Hagart penalty. Yorkshire stormed back down the other end, and with the Edinburgh defence stretched, scored their second try to edge ahead 12-11. The lead changed hands yet again when, from a scrum close to the Yorkshire line, the clearing kick was charged down and Angus White dived on the loose ball to score. Alex Hagart added the conversion to put Edinburgh six points ahead but the lead was short lived as the home side fell off some tackles as the visitors went in for their third try, which was converted to put Yorkshire 19-18 ahead. A penalty award just inside their half gave Edinburgh a chance but the kick fell just short of the posts and in the closing stages Yorkshire controlled possession and territory to ensure victory Edinburgh Team 1 Robby Wilson, 2 Sean Burns, 3 Scott Purves, 4 Dan Marinello, 5 Morgan Williams, 6 Ross McPhail, 7 Angus White, 8 Chris Dean, 9 Danny Owenson, 10 Jack Polson, 11 Jamie Farndale, 12 Scott Black, 13 Ryan Gray, 14 Gary Peebles, 15 Ryan Hook Replacements |
