Edinburgh U16 12 Glasgow U16 26 Edinburgh were given a lesson in taking chances when they lost 26-12 to Glasgow in the second round of the Under 16 District Championship at Bridgehaugh. Despite the final result Edinburgh were in control for long periods of the game, however an inability to capitalise on their opportunities coupled with two late tries saw Glasgow home. Glasgow opened up a 6-0 lead in the opening twenty minutes from two Mark Bennett penalties, but Edinburgh worked their way back into the match and with the Glasgow defence stretched Ryan Gray had enough strength to squeeze through a tackle and reach over to reduce the half-time deficit to 6-5. Bennett landed his third penalty from 45 metres five minutes into the second half but Edinburgh took control pinning Glasgow into their own half and carving out some good chances, however an aggressive scrambling defence forced errors in the Edinburgh attack ad a brief respite saw Bennett kick his fourth penalty. Back came Edinburgh again and they were at last rewarded with a try as Jamie Farndale brushed off a couple of tackles as the pressure eventually told and cracks appeared in the Glasgow defence. Sam Hidalgo-Clyne added the conversion to level the scores and Edinburgh looked confident to go on and win the match however they did not count on some devastating footwork from Bennett. The Glasgow centre stepped inside his marker on halfway and scorched away from the cover for an outstanding individual try which he also converted. Glasgow defensive hussle was also responsible for their second try which finished ten contest with three minutes left. Sam Goodrich chased a desperate clearance kick and forced Ewan Naysmith into an error as the replacement full back threw and interception trying to keep the ball alive and three passes later David Scott was over at the posts for a try he also converted.
