BORDERS DOs HELP KICK CANCER INTO TOUCH PDF Print
Wednesday, 24 June 2009

Borders rugby development officers (DOs) spent nine hours at ten Borders clubs in a bid to help kick cancer into touch.

The DOs’ kicking marathon started at Berwick and moved onto Duns, Kelso, Jed, Langholm and Hawick before moving onto Melrose, Gala and Selkirk before finishing at Peebles some 200 miles later.

Over £1200 was raised and by the kick-athon will be shared between the Cancer Unit at Borders General Hospital and the Lavender Touch Charity. Thanks to everyone who supported or sponsored these two very worth while charities.

Each DO took three goal kicks at each ground worth a total of 10 points – five points for a successful kick from within five metres from the touch line, three points from within 15metres from the touch line, and two points from in front of the posts.

This meant that a total of 100 points was available to each of the goal kickers and a total of 1000 points all in.

A big well done to all the DOs who gave up their time to take part in what was a great fun event and thanks to Scottish Rugby’s Referee Manager Iain Heard who made sure there was no cheating, while Regional Development Manger for the Borders, Brian Renwick, who came in as a late replacement and finished in the top three

The first coaching update for next season will be a goal kicking session.
