In an effort to support our coach and teacher workforce in clubs and schools, both the ‘RugbyReady Practical (3hr)’ and the‘ Foundation (6hr. Inc, RugbyReady and Refereeing)’ courses will be delivered free of charge throughout Scotland by Scottish Rugby’s team of trained Coach Educators. Course descriptors (inc. application information) can be dowloaded below:

Both courses are in addition to the IRB RugbyReady Online course (www.irbrugbyready.com) which is now a minimum requirement to coach and teach in Scotland (at every level) from the start of the 2009/10 season - one of the policy changes as part of the ‘Are you ready to play rugby?’ initiative to reduce the risk of serious injury in our game. Coaches must logon to the website (www.irbrugbyready.com) and complete the online course.

Coaches wishing to undertake the UKCC level 1 qualification must complete one of the new courses prior to undertaking the qualification, either the ‘RugbyReady Practical (3hr)’ or the ‘Foundation (6hr inc. RugbyReady and Refereeing)’. Coaches who possess a current UKCC Level 1 qualification (attained pre 1st September 2009) and wish to progress to Level 2 are able to do so without completing one of the new courses.

Should a coach have completed a Foundation course in 2009 and wishes to attend a UKCC qualification, they are advised to contact the coach development department (details below) to discuss their application on an individual basis.

Qualified PE teachers who have completed the online IRB RugbyReady course and with relevant rugby coaching experience can progress directly to UKCC level 2 after completing one of the new courses -(‘RugbyReady Practical (3hr)’ and ‘Foundation (6hr inc. RugbyReady and Refereeing)’).

Both of the new courses are open to all coaches; however the Foundation (6hr inc. RugbyReady and Refereeing) course is designed specifically for Mini coaches as it contains Tag and Mini Rugby elements.

To book onto one of these courses, please click on the link below which will take you through to the Foundation Courses page http://www.scottishrugby.org/community/content/view/1042/108/

Please contact a member of the Coach Development Team if you have any questions regarding the two new courses:
