Edinburgh Pathway Week 3 – Falcons Soar In The Rain PDF Print
Monday, 24 August 2009

Both Eagles teams welcomed the East Lothian Falcons to a wet and windy Meggetland for their 3rd game of the month.

The Under 15 match proved to be a one sided affair as the Falcons scored a number of excellent tries. The difficult conditions didn’t seem to stop the Falcons as they moved the ball well from side to side and created some good momentum through direct running and effective offloading. The Eagles never gave up and put together some nice passages of play themselves. Iain Martin and Harry Smith provided some exciting moments in attack whist the forwards leading the way were Kyle Kirkland and Tom White for the Eagles. The contact area was well contested and both teams will no doubt be working on tidying that area up at practice this week.

East Lothian also impressed in the Under 16 game running out eventual winners 34 - 7. It was the Eagles that started the livelier with scrum half Alex Webb taking a quick tap 30 metres out and stepping his way to under the stick. However, the Falcons seemed to adapt to the slippery conditions better as the half wore on and scored some nice tries. Ruaridh Young and Luke Baker were on the end of some nice passing plays to score and Ruaridh Mitchell used a more direct route to round off the first half tries.
The second half way was stop start due to the number of knock ons and scrums. East Lothian finished strongly with some excellent offloading and decision making in attack and crossed for 3 more tries from Paul Dickson, Blair Mills and Calum Dickson.

The Chargers sides were both down at Gala. The U15 played Selkirkshire and were quick to stamp their mark on the game. Effective offloading and good quick handling saw Scott Simpson and Ewan Smith crossed over for tries. The breakdown area was an area of concern for the Chargers as poor decision making form support players often led to slow ball. The Chargers continued strong into the second half and Scott Simpson completed his hat-trick as the final score ended 43 – 12 in favour of the Chargers.

The Under 16 faced a difficult task in playing against the East & West Borders sides in a round robin format.  The Chargers spent the majority of the time defending as they couldn’t control the ball when they had it and suffered from kicking away too much possession which the Borders sides were happy to use. Jake Tritton and Craig Burt both tried hard to lead by example and get things going for the Chargers but the Borders sides continued to dominate and run in tries. The players and coaches will have to really focus at training and get their game back on the road for the final games next week.

Thank you to all the officials, coaches and supporters for battling in the rain.
