Pinkie – 15 November 2009 Musselburgh 15 Peebles Colts 18
They started very well, Gavin Pringle going blind from a 5m scrum and feeding Ruaridh Clinch. Although there were a few mistakes, Mussleburgh didn’t offer much and good driving runs from Keiran Brown and Gavin Pringle meant Peebles stayed on the front foot. Ally Donnelly used his kicking skills to the full, ensuring Peebles stayed in the Musselburgh half. Midway through the first half, he was also able to demonstrate his place kicking, putting Peebles 8-0 ahead. Good defensive work from all the forwards stopped Musselburgh breaching the Peebles line from a series of relentless “pick and drives”. James Millen, Jamie Menzies and Fraser Dale were particularly prevalent. However, the home side did manage to kick a penalty, bringing the score to 3-8 at the interval. The second half started badly for the visitors, with Musselburgh scoring two tries in quick succession. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Peebles but they had the character to fight back. Second phase ball was now coming quickly and Ally Donnelly used this to his advantage, cutting clean through the Musselburgh defence to score in the corner. Quick ball again gave Keiran Clyde the opportunity to finish things off and he scored the winning try with minutes remaining. This was a fine victory for the u-16s who suffer a bit from having a few of their eligible players in the older Colts side. They rose to the challenge and now look forward to turning the tables on local opposition. Peebles Colts are grateful for the sponsorship provided by BARC Travel, their transport provider.
