The Border Reivers Under 16 squad sampled their first taste of district rugby against Edinburgh at Dunbar on Sunday, and found the going tough as the home side recorded a 29-0 win over their Border counterparts. The Reivers did spend plenty of time in the Edinburgh twenty two in the opening fifteen minutes, but apart from a missed penalty attempt didn’t look like crossing the Edinburgh line, and Edinburgh displayed a clinical efficiency in taking their chances with three first half tries. The home side opened the scoring after six minutes when a penalty in their first foray into the Reivers half saw a kick to the corner and from the resulting line out Andrew McWilliam rumbled over. Rhys Jack was next to score twenty minutes into the half with Andrew McMillan adding the conversion and McMillan adding a try of his own before the break. After the interval Edinburgh took control, keeping the Reivers pinned in their own half for long periods and displaying a cutting edge along the backline the Reivers, apart from one or two individual breaks, were unable to match. Two tries in two minutes midway through the half, with Ruairidh Young and Ramsay Young crossing, and an Alistair Fraser conversion sealed a comfortable win for the home side, and left the Reivers much to work on before their next match. Next Sunday the Reivers travel to Braidholm, Glasgow where they will play Caledonia in the second leg of the Under 16 Player Identification Fixture double headers at 2pm with Edinburgh and Glasgow clashing at 12.30pm Border Reivers |
