Edinburgh opened their Under 16 Player Identification Fixtures with a comfortable 29-0 win over Border Reivers at Dunbar on Sunday. The home side had to withstand some fierce Borders pressure in the opening fifteen minutes and indeed took the lead against the run of play when a penalty in their first foray into the Reivers half saw a kick to the corner and from the resulting line out Andrew McWilliam rumbled over. Rhys Jack was next to score twenty minutes into the half with Andrew McMillan adding the conversion as Edinburgh started to gain control and McMillan adding a try of his own before the break to put Edinburgh 17-0 ahead. Edinburgh dominated the second half, keeping the Reivers pinned in their own half for long periods and displaying a cutting edge along the backline that stretched the visitors defence. Despite this dominance Edinburgh failed to add points until two tries midway through the half, with Ruairidh Young and Ramsay Young crossing, and an Alistair Fraser conversion sealed a convincing win for the home side. Next Sunday Edinburgh travel to Braidholm, where they will play Glasgow in the second leg of the Under 16 Player Identification Fixture double headers at 12.30pm. Edinburgh Under 16 |
