Man of the match, Kyle Smith, was the try scorer for Lasswade in a tense encounter played out before a vociferous crowd, with his side's other points coming from the boot of stand-off, Carl McWilliam. Highlights of cup finals day will be shown both on tomorrow’s [Sunday] STV Rugby show at 5.25pm, extended highlights will be shown on www.scottishrugbytv.com from Monday. Lasswade coach, Dave Cockburn, praised the opposition after tha game: "Greenock put us under pressure and we worked hard to starve them of possession. Murrayfield is an amazing place to play; it makes everything extra special and the crowd were phenomenal.
Within the first minute, Lasswade took the lead with an early penalty from number 10, Carl McWilliam, to put the alternative east coast black and red army ahead: 3-0. All the early pressure came from Lasswade, with some blistering runs by scrum half, Neil Clark. Solid defence by Wanderers prevented any increase to the score, however, and with thirteen minutes gone, the Greenock men had settled into their stride and began to move on the attack. A promising run down the wing has Lasswade in some array but the pass was fumbled, before composure was regained and stand-off McWilliam put on blistering pace to cross the line and score by the posts. he duly converted his try to put Wanderers ahead after 17 minutes: 3-7. A good run by Kyle Smith put the pressure back on Greenock though it was Lasswade who proceeded to lapse with an infringement that saw their number 11 walk to the sin bin. More pressure by Lasswade saw them close in on the Greenock line with Clark skip round the back of the defence to cross the line, though the score was not awarded. Greenock defended admirably but the next score went to Lasswade with a penatly just before the half hour, from McWilliam: 6-7. Back to full strength with ten minutes to go, Lasswade were encouraged on another fine break up the wing but fumbled the pass, a recurring event as the clock ticked towards half time. Almost against the run of play at the 50 minute mark, a sudden break from Lasswade resulted in winger Kyle Smith going over the line, however the conversion went wide: 14-7. A technical infringement by Lasswade saw the penalty boot shoft to Greenock's foot however the attempt, by Devlin, was short. Some great runs from the Lasswade scrum half took the action back into Wanderers' 22 and, into the last 20 minutes, some loose passing from Greenock in reply as they tried to redress the balance. Lasswade pressing on the 5m line in the last five minutes resulted in some desperate defending by Wanderers, and a penalty awarded. The attempt was again taken in measured fashion by McWilliam, his fourth successful kick of the final, to make the final score 17-7 Lasswade RFC Greenock Wanderers RFC Substitutes
