The Grammar school quickly surged into the lead following an early penalty from full-back Lawrence Sahebi in the first five minutes, only for Williamwood hooker Kelso Brown to equal the score with a kick of his own, 3-3. Aberdeen right winger, Finn Blake, and Williamwood scrum-half, Paul Rafferty, then scored the first of a brace of tries, Brown adding a further penalty to inch Williamwood into the lead (8-11) at half time. HALF TIME: 8-11 In an action packed second-half, Rafferty quickly consolidated Williamwood’s lead with his second try of the match though, not to be outdone, Grammar fought and Sahebi scored his second, which captain Sam Knudson easily converted. Minutes later Grammar were on the score sheet once more winger Finn Blake scored a fantastic long range try, sliding Aberdeen into a 20-16 lead. The drama continued right up to the end when Williamwood prop Andrew Mather crossed from close range to snatch the lead once more but Knudson had other ideas and led the Aberdonians to victory with a last try of the final to win 25-21. FULL TIME: 25-21 Man of the match: Andrew Doig (Aberdeen Gramar) Aberdeen Grammar Williamwood High School Referee: Jean-Marie Burel |
