| CURRIE v AYR THRILLER GET THERE! |

The top two teams in the country will clash this weekend at Malleny Park kicking-off at 3.00pm. The big games of rugby just keep coming this season and none more so than the prospective thriller that will be the Currie v Ayr clash come three o'clock this Saturday. League leaders Currie remain on top having played one more game and it has been the Malleny Park players turn to experience the demands of three games in eight days, their Ayr counterparts having endured the same burden last week. With a stirring victory in Saturday's Cup Final against Melrose, and a crucial 5 league points in the bag this weekends match is the one Scottish rugby fans have been looking for. "I'm pretty sure it will be a hard-fought affair, we had an intense match at Millbrae but came out eventual winners," said Ayr assistant coach, Peter Laverie. " The thing I really like about our team is that they refuse to give in. We know Currie are a good side and they like to play expansive, and sometimes loose, rugby and we have been trailing them in the league all season, but with games in hand due to British and Irish Cup commitments. They have some great players in their team like Weston, Snedden, Moala, Kinloch and young Alun Walker who is a real prospect, so we'll be keeping a close eye on them and, of course, the others. More important though Currie have to face us and we too have great players in our team and a formidable resolve to win." "We set ourselves some stern goals about six weeks ago, in particular taking maximum points from games leading up to the Currie match, and we have achieved that, now it is showtime on Saturday and what Kenny (Murray) and I refer to as 'the main arena.' This term stems from discussions during our District age grade coaching experiences and whether players step up to the mark in important matches. Well the Ayr boys love the 'main arena' in my opinion so Saturday will be a cracker." Following the huge success of taking 15 buses and nearly 2,000 supporters through to Murrayfield for the Cup Final, the club is organising buses from Millbrae to Currie this Saturday. The cost is £5 per head and can booked at the club. |
