Scottish Hydro Premier 1 champions Currie will play a Japan Select side on Tuesday 25 May (kick-off 7.30pm) at Malleny Park as part of the nation's preparations for the match against Scotland XV at Murrayfield on Tuesday 1 June.

The exhibition fixture was offered as a reward to the club that finished top of Scotland's club leagues - which Currie confirmed on Saturday with a convincing 55-21 victory over Glasgow Hawks at Burnbrae.

Currie head coach Ally Donaldson is delighted with the opportunity to field his champion club against an international outfit.

He said: "It's fantastic for the whole club. It's a real honour to play an international side and one which the players are really up for.

"It'll be a great experience to play an international team - something the players never thought they'd get a chance to do - I'm sure they'll thoroughly enjoy the experience and look back on it with pride.

"We should get a good crowd of Currie supporters down but I'd hope that all rugby fans in Edinburgh and beyond come because the match presents a great opportunity to see an international team in close quarters because you're so close to the pitch."
