GLASGOW U16 REGIONAL PLAYER PATHWAY PDF Print
Monday, 23 August 2010

The Glasgow U16 National Player Pathway culminated at GHA yesterday as 4 Regions attended the final selection festival.  The Regions; South West Warriors, Glasgow Giants, Glasgow Hurricanes and the Glasgow Chiefs (+ a few Argyll & Bute players added into each team) played a round robin festival of 20 minute matches against each other.   With the weather conditions not as perfect as last week the players struggled initially with the wet ball and strong wind meaning that scrums were a plenty through the first 2 matches.

As the wind gradually dried the ground out and the players became accustomed to the conditions the matches sped up and the handling of the ball improved.  The crowd was entertained by some strong running and offloading and all the teams trying to play a wide running game.  Each game the players gave 100% and some excellent touches and intelligent play produced a number of brilliant tries.

By 3 o’clock the matches had finished and the coaching teams had viewed enough rugby to select the Glasgow U16 Training Squad.  The 38 player strong squad, announced on the 6th September, will start the Program on the 11th October at a 2 day training Camp.

A lot of thanks must be said to all that supported the Program:

·        All the players and parents for there commitment and effort

·        The coaches for there knowledgeable and committed time

·        GHA for the use of their facilities and hospitality and all the host clubs

·        The 2 referees – David Leslie & Scott Livingston for the management of the matches
