Uddingston Rugby Club continued their strong start to the season with wins for both 1st and 2nd XV’s.

Thursday evening saw the Villager’s 1st XV travel the short distance to Dalziel to face the hosts 2nd XV. In a hard, uncompromising match it was the Villagers who came out on top with a 21-12 victory.

Outscoring their opponents by 3 tries to 2 the Villagers secured another well deserved pre-season success. Tries on the night came from Brendan Cairns and a fine double for Jamie McPherson. All 3 conversions were successfully kicked by Gordon Burns.

On Saturday it was the turn of the Villagers’ 2nd XV. In their opening fixture of their Reserve League West Division 4 campaign Uddingston’s 2nd string made the short journey to Condorrat to face Cumbernauld 3rd XV.

This was the first full run out of the season for the 2nd XV and they showed that their pre-season training had not been a waste of effort, recording a resounding 76-12 victory.

The Villagers recorded a total of 11 tries from Hughes (4), McKeown (2), McDermott, McPherson, Fox, Hearty and Irvine with Kirkland securing 14 points from 7 successful conversions.

Next Saturday, 04/09, the 1st XV get their competitive season underway with their Regional Bowl Preliminary Round tie against Birkmyre at Kilmacolm. The 2nd XV meanwhile continue their Reserve League campaign when the travel to face Dalziel 4th XV. Both matches kick-off at 3pm.
