KEY NATIONAL COACHING THEMES Key National Themes & Under 14/15 Regional Skills Camps 2011-12 Season 2010-11 saw the launch of the restructured male player pathway which places greater emphasis on increasing the skill development and physical competency of players at Under-14 to Under-15 level [‘developing the player’ stage (12-16yrs) of Scottish Rugby’s LTPD framework], through the delivery of Key National Themes (KNT) and the forthcoming national curriculum. Last year’s programme culminated in over 1000 under 14/15 players being assessed at Regional Skills Camps and issued with reports on how they performed the KNT. The KNT programme is ongoing with the 4 themes (hand catch, ball presentation, offload, individual tackle) underpinning sessions delivered by the network of Club Development Officers. The ability to perform the KNT proficiently is a key requirement for players wishing to be nominated for the under 14/15 Regional Skills Camps in April 2012. Therefore, over the next few weeks a series of regional and local updates are being delivered to help support, update and up-skill S1, S2, under 14, and under 15 coaches in clubs and schools around the Key National Themes and the Regional Skills Camps programme.
