Based at the home of GHA Rugby Club in Glasgow, the tournament was introduced to the rugby calendar with the ambition of becoming Scotland's premier 'open' tournament. The club are already following up on the pledge as they seek to increase the number of participating teams from 16 in 2010 to 24, split between a 16-team open entry event and an all new eight-team elite tournament. Tournament organiser, Rangi Jericevich, said: "Tournaments in this mould have seen applications soar in recent seasons as the popularity of rugby sevens continues to grow. “Here at Braidholm we have fantastic facilities which are ideally suited to hosting a top quality sevens event. "Last year we attracted a good mix of teams from a variety of backgrounds who played some exciting rugby while enjoying the hospitality and festival atmosphere. "This year we are looking to build on that success and the introduction of an elite tournament should help provide an even better spectacle for our spectators while making our open event more competitive." Registration for the Braidholm 7s is now open via the tournament website - www.braidholm7s.co.uk The Braidholm 7s takes place on Saturday 21 May at GHA Rugby Club, Braidholm Road, Giffnock, Glasgow G46 6EB. |
