Border Reivers U18   13
Edinburgh U18          40

The Border Reivers continued their habit of giving their opponents a head start against Edinburgh at Walkerburn on Sunday. This time however they gave themselves no opportunity to come back as they conceded six first half tries and trailed by 40 points to 3 at the break.

The Edinburgh side were able to find plenty of space out wide, attacking around the outside centre channel and forced the home side in to scrambling defence which at times was found wanting. The Reivers did create a few scoring opportunities but did not display Edinburgh’s precision in getting the ball to the wide channels.

Edinburgh were on the score board after only three minutes when scrum half Alex Glashan brushed off two tacklers to go over for an unconverted try. Reivers immediately responded well and created a good try scoring opportunity, but had to settle for a Josh Welsh penalty after five minutes.

Edinburgh then took charge as the Reivers midfield was ripped to shreds and John Rae had an easy run in on the overlap and two minutes later Glashan crossed for his second try, both converted by Owenson.

Edinburgh completed the first half rout when Nutton crossed for a hat-trick of tries in the final 13 minutes of the half, all converted by Owenson.

Both teams made a number of changes at the break and the Reivers started brightly responded well with a try straight from the kick-off after a break down the right resulted in Callum McColm collecting Josh Welsh’s pass and going over in the corner. The Reivers continued to battle hard, and sorted out their porous defence, preventing Edinburgh from gaining the easy yards they had on the first half, and getting in behind the home defence.

Reivers scored again after a kick and chase from half way resulted in Sean Hook collecting the bouncing ball and going over foe the home sides second try. There was no further scoring as the referee blew early after an injury to Reivers prop Michael Waldron resulted in a hospital visit, but the Reivers had shown their spirit to win the second half 10-0 however the match was over as a contest well before the half time whistle.
