Eleven years after its momentous Cup run, that saw it beat extraordinary odds to win through to the Semi-Final of the BT Cup, Strathendrick Rugby Club is again enjoying outstanding success and has made it through to the Regional Bowl Final at Murrayfield on Saturday 16th April. They beat Ross Sutherland on Saturday by 25-17 in a hard fought match at Fintry.

 The club from Fintry, in Stirlingshire, is top of Regional West League 1, having won all but one of its league fixtures this season, collecting 10 bonus points along the way out of 13 games played to date. Club coach, David Cook, a professional fitness instructor from Clan Crossfit in Glasgow, plans to make it a double in his first season in charge by winning both the Regional West League and the Regional Bowl.

“At this level fitness makes a tremendous difference and we planned to be the fittest team in our league” says David. “We have had some tough games along the way, but with the exception of one narrow defeat to close rivals Lenzie, we have been victorious – and we intend to keep this run going to the end of the season.”

In the Regional Bowl competition Strathendrick beat Hyndland; put over a hundred points on Braidholm; defeated Strathaven; had a bye against Uddingston; before beating Hillfoots in a very closely fought Quarter Final. The whole Club is looking forward to enjoying its day at Murrayfield, sharing the stage with fellow Bowl Finalists   Duns; together with the National Shield and Premier Cup finalists on the same day. Back in 2000, when there was one national competition for all Scottish clubs, Strathendrick made history when coached by Dave Barrett by winning through to the semi-final stage beating RAF Kinloss, Ross High, Langholm, Stewarts Melville FPs.and Musselburgh from National and Premier leagues along the way before bowing out to mighty Boroughmuir, the eventual winners.
