I am Brian Renwick, Scottish Rugby’s Regional Development Manager for the Borders and East Lothian. I have been the Regional Development Manager here since 2006. I have worked in rugby development since 1999 when I was a development officer for Midlothian Council. Prior to this I was a professional rugby player for Edinburgh Reivers and as an amateur played most of my life for Hawick where I was captain for them in the first ever national cup in 1996. I have represented Scotland at Scottish Schools, U21, Scot A, Scottish Districts I also played for Scotland against the Barbarians in the Dumblane International and toured in New Zealand with Scotland. I addition to this I have played sevens for Scotland in the Hong Kong sevens. In short I am responsible for the development of rugby in the South East of Scotland composed of two local authority areas namely Scottish Borders Council and East Lothian Council. The region has a combined population of over 220, 000 people and covers a large geographical area. Current playing numbers are 1787 adults of which 25 are women and 3582 youths of which 247 are girls. In partnership with Local Clubs and other sponsors there are currently 16 Development Officers working in the Community George Blair – Peebles RFC, Ian Miller – Gala RFC, Ross Millar – Melrose RFC, Iain Paxton – Selkirk RFC, Rocky Johnstone – Hawick RFC, Iain Park – Langholm RFC, Kev Barrie – Jedforest RFC, Mark Coull – Kelso RFC, David Hutchison – Duns RFC, Dougie Hall – Berwick RFC, Gavin Hume – Musselburgh RFC, Stevie Wands – Dunbar RFC, Dougie Thomson – Preston Lodge RFC, Michael Davidson – Ross High RFC, Scott Marnoch – Haddington RFC and Fergus Pringle who is a regional development officer for East Lothian Council. In addition there are two Girl’s Coaching Co-ordinators, Mark Morgan and Ian Millar. This gives the region a strong high quality workforce to encourage, coach and develop all players interested in Rugby. I am responsible for delivering the three year Regional Rugby Development Strategy and annual action plans which includes managing 2 regional development groups.
