Under-20s Student Development League & Cup (Male) Three regional leagues are offered (Caledonia, Glasgow/Midlands, Edinburgh), each with 4-6 teams. The league runs from October to November, with team playing each other home and away on Saturdays. Matches are 15-a-side using under-19 law variations, with the option of player matching down to 12-a-side to ensure matches are completed. Student teams have no restriction on player age, whilst under-20 club teams can have a maximum of six over-age players in their match 22. Stirling County and Edinburgh Accies have been involved in recent seasons and the programme offers a short set of fixtures offering an appropriate standard of transitional rugby for young players. The Cup competition runs from January to March and is designed to be sympathetic to student and under-20s availability at this time of year. All teams involved in the league, and any others wishing to enter, with seeding employed to ensure an appropriate standard of competition. Single clubs or a combination of clubs may enter a squad of 16 players which may include no more than five over-age players. These tournaments are aimed at club under-20 teams, university & college teams, freshers teams & players making the transition from under-18 to adult rugby. Entry is free.
