Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles travelled into Myreside last Saturday where they met Watsonians in RBS Premier Division 2. The home side which has discovered a rich vein of form recently with fine wins over Hamilton and Whitecraigs were pushed all the way by a Peebles team which knuckled down to the task and were unlucky to leave empty-handed on the end of a 16-6 scoreline. However with other results, including wins for Hillhead and West, Peebles are once again at the foot of the table. The second XV – supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – who were due to play Watsonians 3rd XV – in RBS Reserve League East 1- ended up due to play a friendly with Lasswade 2nd XV after the Watsonian fixture was called-off. But after a number of call-offs which pulled players up into the firsts this game was also cancelled. This was unfortunate as Ryan McConnell was due a run-out following a long injury lay-off. Tomorrow Peebles – sponsored by Glenrath Farm Eggs – are at home - in RBS Premier Division 2 - in the usually fiercely contested local derby with Biggar, now coached by Gary Parker who left Peebles in the close season, adding just a wee bit more spice to the mix. Never short of effort these games are always enjoyed by fans of both sides and are a source of much good-natured banter in the clubhouse afterwards. This match is sponsored by Malcolm, Craig and Garry Thornborrow (Sheep Breeders), the Laureate Society and Mark Sinclair (Gro Green) - the Peebles club is grateful for their support. The seconds – supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – have an away fixture against Melrose Knights in RBS Reserve League East 1. Peebles Colts – supported by BARC – are also on the road – this time to play Kelso ‘Quins in a Border Semi-Junior League fixture. Tomorrow there will be after match entertainment including a disco later in the evening for players, supporters, members and their guests following the Biggar match. A final reminder that membership is due now. Renewal forms can be had from the bar – members who have not renewed should do so now. Those not renewing will have to be signed in as guests in order to use the clubroom bars. |
