Last Saturday Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles made the journey through to Burnbrae in Glasgow to play West of Scotland – one of Gerry McGuiness’s old clubs – in RBS Premier Division 2. Unfortunately they returned with only a losing bonus for their efforts as the home side won by 22 – 21. The seconds – supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – had a home fixture in RBS Reserve League East 1 against Forrester. A good all-round performance from both forwards and backs saw them triumph by 32 – 7. The Colts – supported by BARC – were also at home where they played league leaders Selkirk Youth Club in the Border Semi-junior League in front of a good crowd at Peebles High School. Prior to the match there was a small ceremony when Keith Gibb of BARC officially handed over the new strip to Colts captain David Wills. The Colts are very grateful to Keith for the ongoing support received from BARC. In a tight game the Colts lost by 16 – 12 despite outscoring the Youth Club by 2 tries to one. Although they have now lost two games the Colts are still in touch with the leaders and have shown that they can compete at the top end of the league. Tomorrow Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles are on the road again – this time to Laigh Bent to play a Hamilton side which has had a really good run this season and currently sit in the fourth top spot. The seconds supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com are also away when they travel into Edinburgh to face RHC. The Colts – supported by BARC - are the only side at home when the play Duns Colts and all members not travelling to watch either of the firsts or the seconds are asked to come along and support the Colts. Last Sunday a good sized crowd enjoyed breakfast – courtesy of the Piranhas coaches – and settled down to watch a thrilling Rugby World Cup Final from Eden Park in Auckland. New Zealand won a tight game 8-7 keeping everyone on tenterhooks right to the very end. For those fans of traditional Scottish music the Peebles Accordion and Fiddle club meets in the Eastgate clubrooms at 7:00 on the last Thursday of the month. The November meeting will be on the 24th when Ian McPhail and his band will be the guest performers. |
