Edinburgh Rugby full-back Chris Paterson, who retired from international rugby at the end of last year, will represent RBS, the principal partner of Scottish Rugby, and use his experience and passion for the game to promote the RBS Rugby Club and help grow and support the game across Scotland from grassroots to international level. The RBS Rugby club is the first of its kind in Scotland, helping more customers benefit directly from the partnership with Scottish rugby and at the same time enhancing support and awareness of the game in Scotland By joining the Rugby Club, RBS Current account customers could attend training sessions with the Scotland squad or their children could lead out the national team on international match-days, as well as having the chance to win tickets and entry to the RBS rugby clubhouse at Murrayfield Stadium.
One lucky customer will even win a training session with the new RBS Club captain Chris Paterson for their nominated children’s school or club team. RBS became the Principal Partner of Scottish Rugby in 2011 and has, over the past year, worked closely with the governing body to grow the game at a community and grassroots level through the support programme for local clubs and the RBS RugbyForce initiative. Paterson said: “I know how much rugby means to fans in Scotland and the RBS Rugby Club will reward RBS customers for their support while my new role as captain of the RBS Rugby Club will allow me to use my experience to give something back to the rugby community. I’ll also be working with RBS to help support their partnership with Scottish Rugby and help them grow and support the game in communities across Scotland. “The club game is so important and without it I wouldn’t be here today so it’s great to be involved in this new rugby club and look forward to meeting the lucky winners of the great prizes on offer. “This is an exciting time for rugby in Scotland and I’ve been given a brilliant opportunity to use my playing experience and knowledge to help shape the future of the game.” Peter MCarthy, Managing Director for RBS Branch Banking in Scotland added: “Chris was the perfect choice to become captain of the RBS Rugby Club and get involved in our partnership with Scottish Rugby. His record breaking career and his commitment to and passion for Scottish Rugby has made him a firm favourite with fans across Scotland. “He has a close bond and affinity with supporters and understands what the game means to them. He also understands how the game has developed over the past decade from the start of his career with Gala to his success with Edinburgh Rugby and Scotland. We are looking forward to working with him to help develop and grow the game and also bring RBS customers closer to the action.” The RBS Rugby Club Rewards programme will bring thousands of RBS Current Account customers closer to Scottish Rugby by giving them the opportunity to win exclusive experiences.
