Oban Lorne welcomed league leaders Strathendrick to Glencrutten last week, looking for a much required win in the battle against the drop. The home team were looking to replicate their good performance from the previous week in the defeat at Cumbernauld. The men in Green welcomed back a few players including Liam Burns, Jamie MacMillan, David Hunter Crawford Brown and Cammy Smith. With the woeful conditions of gale-force winds and heavy rain it was always going to be a game of few incidents worth mentioning. Both sides however adapted well to the conditions in the first half using the wind at times to their advantage. Neither side made any clear cut chances for the line with the only notable event being a missed penalty attempt from Oban’s Craig Wright. The score at halftime stood at 0-0. Oban knew that this was the day they could be more than capable of pulling off a major upset in the league. They took their confidence straight into the start of the second period and found themselves attacking the away line within a couple of minutes. Struan Smith impressed with a couple of zig zaging runs in the 22, while the rest of the forward pack did well to retain the ball. Oban however could not break down the away defence who managed to clear their lines thanks to former Scotland International Rory Kerr. With the wind direction in the favour of the away side Oban found themselves pegged back in their own 22 for the majority of the second half. The home defence kept the league leaders out for over an hour but eventually succumbed to a soft try, the first score of the game. The Endrick scrum half tapped a penalty from 5 metres out and managed to touch down himself out wide. The resulting conversion meant they stretched their lead to 7-0. Oban gave away another score shortly after from a 5 metre scrum allowing the visitors to double their advantage to 14-0. However there was still time for the hosts to change the game and did their best to scramble up the pitch and create a couple of unsuccessful chances at the tryline. In the end the score remained 14-0. The visitors slight advantage in terms of quality outshining a superb defensive effort from Oban Lorne. The result leaves Oban only two points above bottom place in the league with a vital game away to fellow strugglers Strathaven next Saturday.Kick off 2pm. Oban Lorne wish Strathendrick well in their challenge for promotion from West Division 2. Oban M. Downie, C. Kerr, L. Burns, L. MacLachlan, J. MacMillan, D. Hunter, S. Smith, C. Louw, F. Matheson, A.
