Scotland’s all-time leading points-scorer and caps-holder, Chris Paterson, was voted as the 2008-09 Player of the Season by the Scotland Supporters Club. The Galashiels-raised full-back received the award at the star-studded ceremony at Murrayfield Stadium. It has been ten years since Paterson earned his first cap for his country and in that time he has amassed 95 caps and a phenomenal personal points tally of 738 points.
During the two-match summer Test series against Argentina in 2008 he surpassed Gavin Hastings’ 667 points record and Scott Murray’s record of 87 caps. Another record-breaking season is in the offing for Paterson as he sets his sights on Scotland’s top try tally. He needs three tries to better Tony Stranger and the ‘flying Scot’ Ian Smith’s joint record of 24 touch downs. Paterson also collected an award on behalf of Edinburgh team mate, and another to have played his club rugby at Gala, Roddy Grant, for the Scotland Sevens Player of the Season. Meanwhile Glasgow professionals were also recognised at the ceremony: Max Evans won the Magners League Player of the Season, Kelly Brown the Try of the Season and Richie Gray, the Scotland U20 Player of the Season.
