Scotland 7s began their Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s campaign with a 26-5 victory of Portugal 7s at Scotstoun Stadium today.

It was a nervy start for the hosts, despite scoring first through a try from Colin Shaw. At the break Scotland 7s went in 7-5 up after Portugal's Goncalo Foro touched down.

However, in the second period the Scots clicked into shape and managed a further three tries from Shaw, Michael Fedo and Chris Dean. Three of the four tries were converted by captain, Colin Gregor.

Head coach, Stephen Gemmell, said: "It's great to get a win, we came into this game under a lot of pressure, but even though we were nervy at times the players stood up to the challenge. It's all about the Ws and we've ensured our first one today.

"The players showed how much this game mattered to them, they played a very good shape and were decisive on the ball at key times. This puts us in a good position going forward.

Subs used: Struan Dewar, Chris Dean and Byron McGuigan.

Referee: Marius Van Der Westhuizen
