White Hot Leader

Jason White will captain Glasgow for the first time on Saturday. The Scotland forward, who has previously led the national under-19 and under-21 teams, will be in charge for Glasgow's Welsh/Scottish League match against Newport at Rodney Parade.White takes over the captaincy in the absence of both Andy Nicol and Gordon Bulloch. Nicol has a throat infection, though he is expected to be fit enough to be among the substitutes, whereas Bulloch is being allowed a rest from rugby this weekend."Gordon is being rested by us," Richie Dixon, Glasgow's head coach, explained. "We have had no request from Murrayfield.'dougie Hall takes over as hooker from Bulloch for his first start since he signed for Glasgow last summer. Injury kept Hall out of rugby for the first half of this season. His one appearance for Glasgow this year was as a substitute against Pontypridd last month, though he has also appeared for the Scottish Students in matches against their English and Irish counterparts in the past five weeks.Bulloch's younger brother, Alan, returns to the team at outside centre. "Alan is being given a run in his optimum position," Richie Dixon added.James McLaren, regular outside centre for both Glasgow and Scotland, has switched to the right wing because of the continuing absence of both Jon Steel and Michael Bartlett. Steel has a shoulder injury, and Bartlett has a knee strainVictory away from home, especially against Newport, would be a great boost for Glasgow. Newport are second in the league table, 12 points ahead of Glasgow and just two behind Llanelli. However, Glasgow have two games in hand over Newport and four over Llanelli.Saturday's match will kick off at 5.30.
