Glasgow Players Coaching District Youngsters

Glasgow's professional players are actively involved in helping in the development of the district's most promising youngsters.Calvin Howarth has been assisting in the coaching of the Glasgow squad preparing for next month's district under-16 tournament and cross-border fixtures. No fewer than 16 of the stand-off's colleagues have been engaged in coaching and one-to-one mentoring of players in the Glasgow rugby academy."I"m really delighted our players are so much involved in mentoring and coaching," Hugh Campbell, Glasgow's coach, said today. 'they"ve all responded with enthusiasm to this development."'the professional players" involvement has taken various forms, including watching the academy players in matches, holding skills and position-specific sessions, and simply giving advice when needed," Stephen Gemmell, the Glasgow rugby academy manager, explained.Five of Scotland's under-19 international players are among the academy boys who are benefiting - Iain Kennedy and James Eddie, from Glasgow Hutchesons" Aloysians, and three Hillhead/Jordanhill forwards, Willie Brown, Bobby Agnew, Stuart Rose. Kennedy, Eddie, Brown, and Rose are in the Scotland squad for the IRB world junior championship, which begins in South Africa on Sunday.Joe Naufahu is among the willing 16, with commitment to the academy programme despite having had to concentrate also on his own rehabilitation for most of this season. The centre damaged a knee in Glasgow's Belfast match against Ulster on the second weekend of the Celtic League programme in September.
