Two Players On Trial With Glasgow

Glasgow have included two trial players, Alex Mockford and Scott Barrow, for the match against Sale Sharks at Hughenden tomorrow evening.Barrow is on loan from Rotherham, the Yorkshire club which has announced it will go into liquidation next month. The 24-year-old can play at centre and full back as well as the wings. "We"ve got clearance from Rotherham to play him in those two games," David Jordan, Glasgow's chief executive, explained this afternoon.Barrow is a Rugby League product, having captained Great Britain's under-19 team in the 13-a-side code while he was with the St Helens club. He was also a Super League winner with St Helens, but he later switched to Rugby Union, playing for Worcester and Orrell before joining Rotherham. While with Orrell, Barrow played alongside Andy Craig, the Scotland international centre who has joined Glasgow this season.Mockford played in French club rugby last season with Pau. The 23-year-old, 6ft 3in forward has been capped by England at under-18 and under-19 levels as well as playing for English Students.By calling on Mockford and Barrow, Glasgow have eased their demands on players from the club ranks for warm-up matches, David Jordan pointed out. "Following the SRU's meeting with Premier One clubs last night, we"re pleased to have been able call on these players to alleviate the pressure on the clubs, at least in the short term," he added.Dan Turner, Glasgow's recent signing from New Zealand, also is in line for his Glasgow debut tomorrow evening. The 24-year-old former Canterbury lock, who arrived in Glasgow only eight days ago, travelled with the squad to Yorkshire for the match against Leeds Tykes last Friday, but he did not play in that game.Glasgow have listed a squad of 25 players for tomorrow. That number, however, will be increased before the 7.30pm kick-off as a scrum half has still to be added.Tomorrow's game is the first in a two-match series with Sale. The return match will be at Edgeley Park a week tomorrow, the final preparation before Glasgow's Celtic League programme opens with a visit to Galway to play against Connacht on Saturday 4 September.Glasgow's squad for tomorrow:Backs - Scott Barrow, Graeme Beveridge, Colin Gregor, Andrew Henderson, Calvin Howarth, Rory Kerr, Rory Lamont, Sean Lamont, Kenny Logan, David Millard, Graeme Morrison.Forwards - John Beattie, Gordon Bulloch, Paul Dearlove, Andrew Hall, Lee Harrison, Andrew Kelly, Scott Lawson, Donnie Macfadyen, Alex Mockford, Jon Petrie, Shawn Renwick, Nathan Ross, Kevin Tkachuk, Dan Turner.Glasgow have included two trial players, Alex Mockford and Scott Barrow, for the match against Sale Sharks at Hughenden tomorrow evening.Barrow is on loan from Rotherham, the Yorkshire club which has announced it will go into liquidation next month.
