Six Border Reivers players who were called up to the Scotland squad yesterday have been named in Steve Bates’ starting line-up to play Northampton Saints in the Heineken Cup at Netherdale on Sunday 14 January (kick-off 2pm). Looking ahead to the Reivers’ last Heineken Cup game in front of a home crowd this season, head coach Bates, said: “We have really enjoyed the experience of this competition and learned a good deal about ourselves and about the skills and conditioning required to be really competitive.”
The Reivers line-up sees three changes to the one that faced Cardiff Blues last weekend. Hooker Ross Ford and prop Bruce Douglas return to the front row whilst National Academy back-row Scott Newlands replaces the injured Scott Gray.

NATIONAL ACADEMY (BORDERS)
Senior National Academy (Borders) player Scott Newlands makes his first Heineken Cup start when he runs out for the Border Reivers against Northampton at Netherdale at 2pm on Sunday.
Joining Newlands in the squad are Mark Robertson and Richie Vernon, who is now fully recovered from an elbow injury.
In the final Premiership Division One fixture, Melrose have Junior National Academy (Borders) winger Callum Anderson in their line-up for the home game against Glasgow Hawks, while Bruce McNeil, Graham Hogg and Rory Hutton, could feature for Hawick as they travel up to take on Dundee HSFP. Also in the squad is young prop Nicky Little.
Ryan Grant, who is back after sustaining a head knock, takes his place in the Heriot’s front row as they take on Ayr at Millbrae, while hooker Sean Crombie joins his Aberdeen Grammar team-mates who are on the road to Boroughmuir.
In Premiership two, centre Lee Kibble is included in the Gala team for their crunch match with Biggar at Hartreemill.
In friendly action is back-rower Ross Gibson as Hawick PSA entertain Berwick Colts at Burnfoot, while Michael Tait is hoping for action with Kelso Harlequins who await opposition due to Peebles Colts postponement.
