The Border Reivers ended their Heineken Cup campaign with a defeat in front of 500 Parma supporters today, the game seeing some 82 points scored during the 80 minutes.

The Reivers’ notched up four tries through centre Nick De Luca, locks John Dalziel and Opeta Palepoi, with the fourth coming from French referee Romaine Poite who awarded a bizarre treble of penalty tries during the game.

Calum MacRae, who turns 26 on Friday, opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a successful penalty attempt.

Parma responded one minute later with a try from Arthur Little, Alejandro Canale converting.

Just before the break, Little then pounced on a Gregor Townsend error for his second try. Townsend attempted to find Simon Danielli with an ambitious long pass out wide but Little intercepted and cruised 90 metres for his second try. Canale converted.

After the restart, the Reivers fought back with two tries in quick succession from De Luca and Dalziel.

MacRae pulled back three points before the Reivers were handed their penalty try at the end of a run by Danielli.

Opeta Palepoi's reply to a late Nicola Mazzucato try was converted by MacRae to give the Reivers fresh hope, but two late penalties from Robuschi snuffed their chances.
