One of the first clubs to get involved in the new scheme, Melrose will have their own club ambassador selling tickets for Border Reivers home games to it’s members with 50% of the monies raised going straight back into the club to help achieve one of Scottish Rugby’s key objectives, growing the game.

Commenting on the launch of today’s initiative, chairman of the Border Reivers board, David Kilshaw, said: “This initiative is a fantastic way of helping the Border Reivers, the local clubs and the SRU affiliated schools within our community to work together towards a mutual goal which is to ensure rugby thrives at all levels in the Borders.”

Melrose’s club ambassador, Christine McGee added: “We are really enthusiastic about getting behind the Reivers and this initiative is a great way of doing that.

“The chance to generate some revenue for the club through supporting our local pro-team is a great opportunity to work together for a common purpose.”

The initiative aims to encourage a greater support for the Border Reivers whilst, in turn, generating a financial boost for local clubs and schools.

An extra incentive is available for those that participate. The club or school that sells the most tickets to its members throughout the season will be awarded with a grand prize of ?£1,000 which has been generously donated by Reivers sponsors Scott Wilson and Cullen Kilshaw.

Those wishing to get involved in the new initiative should contact the Border Reivers business manager, John Thorburn, on 01896 750045, or email john.thorburn@sru.org.uk for more information.
