Cusiter Captains Reivers In Final Derby Of Season

The four Border Reivers players who featured in Scotland’s RBS 6 Nations campaign return to the Reivers’ starting line-up tomorrow night (Friday 23 March, kick-off 7:30pm) for the last Scottish derby of the season, against Edinburgh. Elsewhere, Bryan Rennie returns to the back-line alongside Ben MacDougall in the centre.



Looking forward to tomorrow’s game, Reivers head coach Steve Bates said: Tomorrow’s game will be another huge challenge against a side full of international players.



“I hope that we will see a fast and exciting game that allows the players from both sides to show the national selectors what they can do in the run up to the World Cup.”

NATIONAL ACADEMY (BORDERS)



Scotland Under 20 back-row Richie Vernon is included in the Border Reivers squad for the visit of rivals Edinburgh to Netherdale on Friday night.



Vernon, who shone throughout the U21 Six Nations, joins fellow National Academy (Borders) player Scott Newlands in the Reivers squad.



Four National Academy (Borders) players are included in the Scotland 7s squad who travel to Hong Kong this weekend for the next leg of the IRB Sevens World Series. Scott Forrest leads the Scotland squad which also includes Roddy Grant, Sean Crombie, Graham Hogg and Callum Anderson. Following the Hong Kong event, the squad move on to Adelaide in Australia.



National Academy (Borders) player James King makes a welcome return to competitive action after having an injury-plagued season. King steps into the number 10 jersey for Melrose who take on Heriot’s in the Hydro-Electric Super Cup match at the Greenyards.



Prop Gavin Cameron and full-back Fraser Thomson are included in the Scotland Under 18 squad who travel to Percy Park to take on England Under 18A on Sunday, while Michael Tait and Nicky Little are involved with the Scotland Under 17 squad who prepare at the weekend for the Millfield Tournament in a weeks’ time. Ross Gibson, who missed out on the Under 18 national squad, joins Hawick 2nds as they take on Haddington at Mansfield Park on Saturday.
