Nominations Open For Rugby Awards

Rugby’s official prize-giving event of the season, the Scottish Rugby Awards Dinner, will this year take place at Murrayfield on Friday 25 May. Hosted by Jill Douglas, BBC, the event promises to be an evening of celebration for those from all levels of the sport. The Scottish Rugby website www.scottishrugby.org will allow supporters and players alike to vote for their favourite Scotland player of the season.

Supporters will soon be able to vote for their pro-team player of the season by visiting the clubs’ websites. The winning player from each club will then go forward to form the nominees for the Scottish Professional Player of the Season award which will be presented at the dinner.

Scottish Rugby’s President, Andy Irvine, said: “As this is my final season in office, I’m greatly looking forward to ending my term on a high at The Scottish Rugby Awards. The exciting event offers us the chance to say thank you to all those who take part in the sport throughout the year from the grassroots right up to the pinnacle of the International game and is a celebration of all that is good in our sport.”

With 23 awards in total, the full list of categories is: Players player of the season (for all premiership and national divisions), club coach of the season, try of the season, referee of the season, club of the season, spirit of rugby award, SVQ of the season, youth coach of the season, Scotland Women’s player of the season, Scotland U20, Scotland U19 and Scotland U18 players of the season, The Famous Grouse Scotland 7s player of the season and the Scotland player of the season.

In addition, the evening will play host to a raffle in aid of the Wooden Spoon sporting charity. Information and voting forms will be sent to clubs shortly and voting will also be available live on www.scottishrugby.org next month.
