Having already hosted a breakfast for the charity last season, the second Reivers event (on Tuesday 10 April, 7:30am at Restaurant 26 in Melrose) will again be cooked by local chef and owner of the restaurant, Gary Moore.

The Reivers squad, staff and sponsors will be in attendance and hope their loyal supporters, families and friends will join them in showing their support for the charity.

Reivers captain Chris Cusiter said: “Last year’s breakfast was a really good event which brought together all the sponsors and supporters, which are all important to the club.

“All the players really enjoyed themselves. It’s hard not to when your eating some great food amongst friends.”

Anticipating another successful event, Cancer Research UK’s Linda Hamilton said: “Britain’s Biggest Breakfast is a fantastic event and we hope that support for this event, now in its sixth year, will be a great success.

“Experts believe around a third of all cancers are linked to diet, obesity and alcohol, so it’s important to make sure you’re getting your five daily portions of fruit and vegetables – and breakfast is a good place to start. You can really get your body going in the morning with a healthy meal, which will give you a boost of nutrients and mean you’re less likely to snack on unhealthy foods before lunch.”

Britain’s Biggest Breakfast is also encouraging awareness of how eating a healthy breakfast, as part of a balanced diet including plenty of fruit and vegetables can help reduce your risk of cancer.
