Speaking ahead of the game, Bates said: “This week has been a difficult time to prepare for a game of competitive rugby, but the response from the players has been extremely professional.
“We are looking forward to playing a strong Llanelli side and the morale in the camp is remarkably high considering.”
Elsewhere in the squad, Craig Hamilton has recovered from an ankle operation and features in the squad for the first time since December.

Two National Academy (Borders) players, Scott Newlands and Richie Vernon, take their places in the Border Reivers squad who travel to Wales on Friday night to take on Heineken Cup semi-finalists Llanelli Scarlets in the Magners League.
The four National Academy (Borders) players involved in Scotland’s quarter-final achievement at the Hong Kong 7s move onto Adelaide in Australia for the sixth leg of the IRB Sevens World Series this weekend. Scott Forrest leads the Scotland squad and also included are Roddy Grant, Sean Crombie, Graham Hogg and Callum Anderson.
Scotland Club XV prop Bruce McNeil and Scotland Under 20 centre Rory Hutton are part of the Hawick squad to travel to Edinburgh Accies for the National Cup quarter-final fixture at Raeburn Place.
Prop Gavin Cameron and try-scoring winger Fraser Thomson are included in the Scotland Under 18 squad who open their inaugural RBS 6 Nations U18 Festival campaign against England at Burnbrae on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).
Today, Hawick’s Nicky Little is included in the Scotland Under 17 squad who take on England Under 17 at the Millfield Tournament. Ross Gibson takes his place in the Hawick 7s squad who participate in the Langholm Junior Sevens event at Milntown on Saturday afternoon.
